STERLING – Doris J. Stutzke, 89, of Sterling, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at her home.

Doris was born Feb. 24, 1924, in Woosung, the daughter of Otto and Anna Jane (Mechling) Farster. She married Foster “Bus” Stutzke on Aug. 18, 1951, in Ottawa. He died July 16, 2007. She was co-owner of Stutzke Excavating for 45 years. She also worked at Freeman Shoe Factory and Bowman Shoe Store in Dixon. She was involved in catering for 27 years.

Doris was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rock Falls. She was a former member of the Sterling Moose and the Rock Falls American Legion. She was a Cub Scout leader and enjoyed bowling.

Survivors include three daughters, Diane Stutzke, Cherry (Harry) Hatten, and Laura Stutzke, and two sons, Phillip (Barb) Stutzke and Dana Stutzke, all of Sterling; eight grandchildren, Tyson (Michele) LeBlanc of Aurora, Dustin (Stacy) Rhodes of Bloomington, Minn., Cody (Katie Maxwell) Rhodes of Minneapolis, Alex (Nicole Smith) Stutzke of Rock Falls, Matthew (Alaina Skeet) Stutzke of San Diego, Lindsey (Anthony Jones) Stutzke and Amber (Paul Heflin) Chavarria, both of Sterling, and Hailee (Joseph) Wollard of San Diego; three great-grandchildren, Kailee Stutzke Meeks, Madisen Battles, and Avery Stutzke; two sisters-in-law, Jan Stutzke and Marlene Edwards; five stepgrandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; special niece and nephew, Vicki and Larry Cooper; and a great-grandson due in January.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, six brothers, six sisters, and grandson Drew Montanez.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Henrietta Milner of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Falls officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
