Seasonal fun stirring around Sauk Valley
Compton: The annual free Halloween parade will line up at 3 p.m. Sunday at Compton Fire Department Building on West Cherry Street. Registration will end at 3:30 p.m., with the parade starting at 4 p.m. Hot dogs, chips, and hot chocolate will be served. Canned goods and nonperishable items will be collected for the N.I.C.E. Center in Lee.
Dixon: A Monster Breakfast will be from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Post House Ballroom, 100 W. Second St. The cost will be $4 for adults, $2 for children 12 and younger. A $1 discount will apply for those coming in costume. Proceeds will go to support Dixon Main Street and Lee County Council on Aging programs.
The Dixon Noon Lions parade will start at 10 a.m. Saturday, leaving from Haymarket Square, with costume judging at 9:30 a.m. All parade participants will receive a treat bag donated by local businesses, Dixon High School Leo Club, and the Noon Lions. In case of rain, judging will be at the ballroom.
St. Paul Lutheran Church’s annual free Trunk or Treat program will be Sunday after the 11 a.m. worship service at the church, 421 S. Peoria Ave.
Trick-or-treating, crafts, games, and a hot dog lunch will be provided. Registration is requested. Call the church at 815-288-2757 to sign up, for more information, or to donate candy, pumpkins, décor, or other items.
Franklin Grove: A free children’s costume contest will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 31 at AFC Elementary School, 217 S. Elm St.
Manlius: An annual Halloween party will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31 at the Manlius Fire House, on Maple Avenue. A Halloween costume contest for different age groups will take place, and food will be served.
Morrison: The Morrison Chamber of Commerce and Cottonwood 4-H Club will have an annual Halloween parade at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in downtown Morrison. A fun fair will take place after the presentation of trophies. Trick-or-treaters also can visit Resthave Nursing & Retirement Home from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Call the Morrison Chamber of Commerce at 815-772-3757 for more information.
Rock Falls: The Rock Falls Uptown Trick-Or-Treat will be at 4 p.m. Oct. 31. All businesses on First Avenue from Dixon Avenue to First Street, and on East and West Second and East and West Third streets, can open their doors to trick-or-treaters. The eighth annual Trick or Trunk Halloween Party will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the First Congregational Church of Rock Falls parking lot, 905 Dixon Ave.
Church members decorate their car trunks and van and truck tailgates, and provide treats for children up to 12 years of age who come in costume. There will be a costume judging at 2:30 p.m. in several age categories.

Coloma Township Park District’s annual Halloween costume judging contest will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Louis J. Pignatelli Municipal Center, 1007 Seventh Ave. Doors will open at 3:30 PM.
The contest is open to all ages; cash prizes will be awarded. Categories are hobos, clowns, funniest, historical, native costume, most unusual, scariest, vampires, most original, storybook characters, devils, witches, prettiest, cartoon characters, movie characters, food items, and miscellaneous. There will be one $15 prize awarded to the best of show, $10 to the first runner-up, and $5 to the second runner-up. Candy treats will be given to all participants
Sterling: First Church of the Nazarene’s fourth annual Trunk-or-Treat and Fall Festival will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the church, 411 13th Ave.
Free activities include games, face-painting, crafts, and a cakewalk. Children should wear costumes.
