ROCKFORD – Raymond L. Hammelman, 93, of Sterling, died Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. He farmed in the area for many years until 1986.

Raymond was born April 18, 1920, in Sterling, the son of Lester and Fern (Seng) Hammelman. He married Iola Bennett on Aug. 3, 1941, in Sterling. Raymond was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sterling.

Survivors include his wife, Iola; one daughter, Rita Hammelman of Palmer, Texas; one son, Frank (Virginia) Hammelman of St. Charles; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Hammelman; and one sister, Lorraine Reins.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday and the funeral at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church in Sterling, with the Rev. Mark Oehlert, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling. Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling is handling arrangements.

A memorial has been established to St. John Lutheran Church in Sterling.
