George C. Wallace

DIXON – George G. Wallace, 83, a longtime resident of Dixon, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at Serenity Hospice & Home in Oregon. He was employed by Commonwealth Edison for 41 years, retiring in 1989.

He was born June 3, 1930, in Danville, the son of Herman and Pansy (Styers) Wallace.  He married Dolores R. Peterson on Sept. 9, 1950. She preceded him in death on Jan. 13, 1982. George married Peggy Wallace on June 4, 1983, in Dixon. George loved hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He started playing bridge while wintering in Florida. He met some wonderful friends in the world of bridge, becoming a Life Master in 2011.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy, of Dixon; one daughter, Sylvia Wallace of Chicago; one son, Kurt (Joellen) Wallace of Shawnee, Kan.; one sister, Sandy of Dixon; three stepsons, Bob (Diane) Wallace of Lake Bluff, Jeff (Vicki) Wallace of Lakeside, Calif., and Steve Wallace of Sandy, Utah; nine grandchildren, Matt Wallace, Pat Wallace, and Chris Wallace of Shawnee, Ryan (Amanda) Wallace of Chicago, Lauren Wallace of Boston, Ashley (Tim) Logan and Alex Wallace, both of San Diego, and Katie Wallace and Emily Wallace, both of Sandy; and two great-grandchildren, Everett and Addison Logan of San Diego.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charles Wallace; and two sisters, Louise Howard and Connie Rich.

There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon with Ryan Wallace officiating. Burial of cremains will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.

Memorials have been established to Serenity Hospice & Home in Oregon and Heritage Square in Dixon.
