MOUNT CARROLL – Jay Frederick, 51, of Mount Carroll, died on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, at Rockford Memorial Hospital.
Jay had a wonderful work ethic and was always there for his friends, no matter what.
Jay was born on Jan. 5, 1962, in Freeport, the son of Dean and Judy (Bucher) Frederick. Jay attended Mount Carroll High School and graduated with the class of 1980. While attending school, Jay worked as an attendant at the Mount Carroll Mobil station. Jay went on to work at Honeywell-Micro Switch in Freeport for more than 20 years. He also worked at Pfieffer’s Engine Service in Freeport for more than 10 years. While working there, he also owned and operated Frederick Machine and the Mount Carroll Auto Parts Store in Mount Carroll.
Jay had a love for fast cars and enjoyed NASCAR and drag racing. One of Jay’s highlights was when he had the opportunity to meet John Force and Tony Pendregon, both dragster racers. Jay also loved his Harley-Davidson and would ride it as much as possible. One of his most treasured possessions was his green 1972 Corvette Roadster, which Jay personally restored to show quality. The Corvette is Bloomington Gold Certified and has won several awards in various car shows. Jay also collected guns and was a true believer in our Second Amendment rights. Most of all, Jay was a true friend and was always there when you needed him.
Jay will be dearly missed by one daughter, Courtney Frederick of Freeport; one sister, Jodi Frederick of Rock Falls; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Jay was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Carroll Church of God. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mount Carroll. A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Friends and family are invited to share Jay’s life at lawjonesfuneralhome.com.
