Football: Missiles can't make up early deficit
The Milledgeville Missiles were blitzed in the first quarter and never recovered Friday night against East Dubuque, as the Warriors won the NUIC Upstate matchup 52-21 at Floyd Daub Field.
Kameron DawTyne marked his return from a Week 2 leg injury with a touchdown run and pass, and finished with 75 yards on the ground and 30 through the air for the Missiles (2-6, 2-5).
Blake Kappes caught the touchdown pass, and Daniel Walker added 120 rushing yards and a second-quarter score.
Walker also led the defense with 12 tackles, including 10 solo stops. Devin Biller had nine tackles, including six solo.
DawTyne, a senior, split time at quarterback with Jordan Harris, who threw for 13 yards and ran for 13 more.
Alec Monahan rushed for 156 yards and both of his touchdowns in the first period, which ended with the Warriors leading 26-0.
Aaron Frost caught a TD pass from Jared Crenshaw and ran for another score, both in the first half, as East Dubuque (6-2, 5-2) led 40-6 at the break.
Frost ran for 80 yards and caught the TD pass for 25, while Michael Turner added 72 rushing yards and a pair of second-half scores.
Kyle Schultz chipped in 60 yards and a TD on the ground, and also returned an interception 45 yards for a score.
