STERLING – Gladys D. Martenson, 87, of Sterling, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at Sterling Pavilion.
Gladys was born Nov. 29, 1925, in Sterling, the daughter of Bert and Ethel (Harting) Moore. She married Urban “Nub” Martenson on Aug. 1, 1948, in Rock Falls. He died March 5, 1973. She was employed as a receptionist at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, retiring in 1993.
Survivors include one daughter, Marsha (Michael) McCoy of Sterling; one son, Phil Martenson of Beloit, Wis.; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy VonHolten of Springfield and Helen Breitwiser and Marilyn Genz, both of Rock Falls; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Leon, in infancy; and two sisters, Gertrude Drane and Arloine Currens.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rock Falls. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
