U of I seeks teens for conference

DeKALB – The University of Illinois Extension will host an event called Lead, Inspire, Value and Explore, or “LIVE It Up,” Nov. 22 and 23.

The conference will begin with registration from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Northern Illinois University Holmes Student Center, 340 Carroll Ave. After a “Welcome to the Real World” simulation, participants will be hanging out in the Huskies Den playing pool, bowling, and eating pizza.

The next day will be spent at the DeKalb County Farm Bureau Building, 1350 W. Prairie Drive, Sycamore. There will be a variety of breakout sessions, including guest speaker Katie Pratt; and packing food for local food pantries through Illini Fighting Hunger.

The leadership conference is open to all students in eighth grade to 18 years old. The conference will focus on leadership, personal development, and community service.

The cost is $95, which includes meals, overnight accommodations, transportation, T-shirt and all activities. Financial assistance is available.
