Village Hall to go up for sale

Offices could move in the next 6 weeks

TAMPICO – In a few weeks, a “for sale” sign could be planted in front of Tampico Village Hall.

The village decided this week to list its current Village Hall, 104 W. Market St., for sale or lease rather than to retain ownership and try to redevelop it, Mayor Kristine Hill said.

The current Village Hall could be appraised as soon as this week, Hill said during Tuesday’s Village Council meeting, and the council will review the appraised value during its Nov. 5 meeting before listing the property.

Listing the property for sale or for lease could bring a quicker deal, the mayor added.

The village is moving its administrative offices and police station to the former Tampico Elementary School building, 202 W. Second St.

That move could happen in the next 6 weeks, Hill said.

“We’re hoping before the snow flies,” she said. “There are some maintenance, painting and carpeting that’s going to be scheduled.”

The village took control of the school building Oct. 4 from the Prophetstown-Lyndon-Tampico school district, which built a new elementary school.

It was an intergovernmental transfer, so Tampico didn’t pay for the building, but gave the school district $5,000 for some appliances and equipment it wasn’t keeping.
