STERLING – Edward L. Olds Jr., 87, of Sterling, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at his home.

He was born April 20, 1926, in Sterling, the son of Edward Louis and Leola (Welker) Olds Sr. He married Ruth Watson on May 18, 1946, in Chicago. She died on Oct. 29, 2006. He was employed by Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. in Sterling, retiring as a general foreman in 1984. He then worked for 10 years at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, in materials management. He was a Chicago White Sox fan and Green Bay Packers fan. He was a past member of Sterling Family Moose and the Rock Falls Eagles Club.

Surviving are four children, Edward L. (Diane) Olds III of Mount Carroll, and Linda Olds-Steinert, Mary Ellen (Tim) McNinch, and Christopher (Lori) Olds, all of Sterling; nine grandchildren, Sarah Ward, Rebecca Ryan, Nathan Olds, Adam Steinert, Richard McNinch, Jessica Schudel, Amanda Happ, Natalie Olds, and Nicholas Olds; 14 great-grandchildren, Isaac Ward, Zoe Ryan, Cecelia Ryan, Finley Ryan, Sage Ryan, Truman Schudel, Eleanor Schudel, Lincoln Schudel, Avery Olds, Ethan Olds, Ainslee Olds, Olivia Steinert, Rand Happ, and Dexter Happ; two sisters, Ruth Seidel of Sterling and Betty (Ed) Dombroski of Clearwater, Fla.; his stepmother, Gloria Olds; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his brother-in-law, Jack Seidel.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Ave., Rock Falls. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling.

Memorials have been established to Hospice of the Rock River Valley and CGH Health Foundation.
