Bold ideas and innovative solutions – two things not commonly associated with our Chicago-run government in Springfield. But that’s what Tom Cross is proposing in his campaign for state treasurer, and I find it refreshing.
I’ve known Tom for a few years, and I’ve found him to be someone ahead of the curve. Tom was among the first, if not the first, lawmaker to begin highlighting the disastrous shape of our state pension system. But more than that, Tom not only recognized the problem, he has offered bold solutions to stabilize and protect the pension system of Illinois retirees and workers.
That’s the type of leadership Illinois needs to begin to right the fiscal wrongs of a decade of overspending, over-borrowing and overtaxing.
Tom Cross will bring a fresh perspective to the treasurer’s office, one that builds on his experience as a prosecutor and a fiscally conservative lawmaker. He knows that the path forward begins with balancing our state’s budget. His approach to addressing this problem is to fight for us by requiring an honestly balanced budget.
Tom has the knowledge and background to identify the gimmicks used by the insiders in Springfield. Taxpayers deserve no less.
