Dixon girls tennis falls to Princeton

Sterling's Michala Smith shot a 116 at the Class AA Sacred Heart-Griffin Sectional in Springfield. Smith did not advance to the AA girls golf state tournament in Decatur.

Sacred Heart-Griffin won the meet by a stroke over Normal U-High 354-355. Edwardsville's Emilee Flaugher was the medalist with a 76.

Girls tennis

Princeton 6, Dixon 3: Jessica VanOosten was part of two of the Duchesses' three wins at Princeton.

VanOosten came from behind for a 1-6, 7-5, 10-4 win over Courtney Webb at No. 2 singles. VanOosten also teamed with Hayley Kent for a 6-0, 6-1 win over Laura Behrends and Brittany Krohn at No. 1 doubles.

Katie Hammitt had the other win for Dixon (9-8), earning a 6-0, 7-6 (7-4) victory over Behrends at No. 4 singles.

Volleyball

Faith claims state title: The Falcons went 3-0 Friday and Saturday to win the Association of Christian Schools International state championship in Sycamore.

Friday, Faith (31-1) defeated Collinsville Christian Academy 25-10, 25-13. Saturday, the Falcons downed Cornerstone 25-10, 25-22 before besting Bethel 25-17, 25-21 in the championship.

Tressa Schuler had 33 kills, 39 digs, eight aces and four blocks to lead Faith, while teammate Sarah Smith had 18 kills, 24 digs and three aces.

Other Faith leaders included: Annabeth Rosanas (29 assists, 22 digs, 7 kills, 7 aces); Stacia Hamill (24 assists, 6 digs, 4 kills); and Katie Cover (12 digs, 3 aces, 2 kills).
