Jimmy John’s location ‘85 percent’ set

New franchise could open in February 2014

ROCK FALLS – If all goes as planned for a local businessman, a Rock Falls Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches location could be open by early 2014.

Franchise owner Li Arellano said he’s focusing his efforts on the old Zuppa’s Deli location, 511 First Ave. in Rock Falls, and has “one or two” contingencies left before he can officially buy the building.

“I’m really excited about the location,” he said. “And I’m about 85 percent sure it will be there.”

Arellano also owns the Dixon Jimmy John’s location and originally looked to expand to Sterling, but was unable to find a property he could buy and renovate to meet his needs.

The Rock Falls location will have a drive-thru, as the Dixon one does. That part of the plan has been approved by both Rock Falls and Jimmy John’s corporate offices, Arellano said.

Barring a delay or issue with the final elements of the purchase, Arellano said he expects to take control of the property in mid- to late November. Construction could then begin in January, and would take about 2 months, he added.

The Jimmy John’s location could be open in February or March 2014, Arellano said.

If he buys the building, he plans to divide it into two units, with the Jimmy John’s in a 1,600-square-foot space and another tenant in a smaller space, Arellano said.

The Rock Falls location could allow for some deliveries into Sterling, potentially to an area including CGH Medical Center and Sterling High School, Arellano told Sauk Valley Media in August.
