MORRISON – A benefit for a Morrison woman fighting severe digestive problems will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Da Bar, 109 E. Main St.

Melinda Bender, 32, was diagnosed in August with esophageal, thyroid, stomach, and intestinal problems. Stevie Carney, a friend of Bender's, said Bender has a mass on her thyroid.

Bender's mother, Melody Boyer of Fulton, said Bender can eat only baby food.

Bender, who has four children, had been a certified nursing assistant at Resthave Nursing Home in Morrison, but is unable to work now. She has no insurance, and will need surgeries as part of her treatment.

There is no cost to attend the benefit. A 50/50 raffle drawing will take place; tickets are $1 each or $5 for six. A disc jockey will entertain. Food will be $5 a plate, which includes pork, potato salad, and side dishes. Silent and live auctions will take place. A cakewalk, games, and a bake sale will be available. Donations also can be brought to Da Bar. Call 815-564-7423 for more information.
