Football: Week 7 by the numbers

Here are some numbers that help to explain Week 7 of the high school football season.


That's how many turnovers the Sterling Golden Warriors have had the last 2 weeks in losses to Streator and Geneseo.

Against the Bulldogs, Sterling lost two fumbles and threw three interceptions. The Warriors only forced one turnover in the 21-2 loss.

Against Geneseo, Sterling threw three more interceptions and lost one fumble. The big turnover being the interception thrown by Bryant Lilly on the first play of the game to Ryan Pitra, who returned the pick 36 yards for a touchdown.


That's how many yards Geneseo reserve fullback Lane Akre had on four carries this season before Friday's game against the Warriors. Akre rushed for 190 yards on 20 carries.


That's how many teams in the NIB-12 West that have an overall record above .500. The Geneseo Maple Leafs are 6-1 and 3-0 in the conference.

Ottawa and Streator are second in the conference with 2-1 records, but are 2-5 overall.

Sterling is the only team other than Geneseo with hopes of the playoffs at 3-4.

Dixon will miss the playoffs for the sixth consecutive season after dropping to 2-5 with its loss to Ottawa.


That's how many points that the Rock Falls Rockets have allowed in the last thee games combined.

Mendota added to that Friday with 28 points. In all, the two teams combined with for 36 points in the first 12 minutes.

The Trojans added 22 points in the second quarter to take a 50-22 lead going into the break.


That's the average yard per rush for the Newman Comets and Erie-Prophetstown during Friday's game for the Three Rivers North lead.

Newman rushed for 10.8 yards a carry, gaining 355 yards on 33 carries.

Erie-Prophetstown rushed for 9.1 yards, gaining 563 yards on 62 carries.

The teams combined for 918 rushing yards.


That's how many passing yards per game for Erie-Prophetstown.

The Panthers had three yards on one reception against Newman. They also threw two interceptions.


That's how many points that Fulton has scored in wins over Princeton and Riverdale the last 2 weeks. They scored a total of 104 points in their other five games.

The Steamers put up 57 points on the winless Rams on Friday.


That's the percentage of the Bureau Valley offensive yards were gained by Parker Neuhalfen on Friday in the Storm's big 36-28 win over Amboy.

Neuhalfen had 237 rushing yards and 10 passing yards. The team had a total 397 yards against the Clippers.

The win kept the Storm's playoff hopes alive.


That's how many touchdowns that West Carroll quarterback Shaun Magill accounted for in the Thunder's 54-38 win over Lexington on Saturday.

Magill passed for 167 yards and four touchdown, and rushed for 51 yards and a touchdown.After losing their first five games, the Thunder are now on a two game winning streak.


That's how many straight points the Milledgeville Missiles scored against No. 8 ranked Aquin on Friday in a 30-26 upset.

The Missiles had two touchdown runs by Daniel Walker in the first quarter and a TD run by Jordan Harris in the second quarter.

Walker finished with 193 rushing yards, and Harris secured the win with a TD pass to Kolton Morgan with 3:20 left in the game.


That's how many Sauk Valley teams are sitting at 3-4 after 7 weeks of the season, meaning they cannot lose again if they want to make the playoffs.

Bureau Valley, Fulton, Oregon, Polo and Sterling all have playoff games the next 2 weeks. Bureau Valley and Fulton play each other in Week 9.


Only Eastland-Pearl City and Newman have clinched spots in the 2013 playoffs from the Sauk Valley. Erie-Prophetstown is playoff eligible.

So far, 115 teams around the state have clinched playoff berths. That means 141 spots remain open.

Amboy, AFC, Dixon, Milledgeville, Morrison, Rock Falls, and West Carroll have all been eliminated from the playoffs with five or more losses.
