STERLING – L. Wayne Willis, 65, of Sterling, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, Iowa.

Wayne was born Jan. 17, 1948, in Cairo, the son of Herbert and Bonnie (Rye) Willis.  He graduated from Amboy High School and later married Catherine “Kate” Stewart on Nov. 6, 1971, in Sterling.  

He was employed at Self Help Enterprises as plant superintendent for 40 years, retiring on Dec. 23, 2010. Wayne was a member of Rock Falls United Methodist Church and was an avid fisherman and bowler.

Survivors include his wife of Sterling; two sons, Scott Willis of Sterling and Matt (Sheri Broege) Willis of Oregon; three grandchildren, Zachary, Briana and Payton; two special nieces, Nicole Ruth and Natasha Stewart; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Tim; two daughters-in-law, Robyn and Kathy; two brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls.  Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Rich Fassig, of the Rock Falls United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Rock Falls United Methodist Church.
