Eastland-Milledgeville’s Kori Freidag and Rock Falls’ Kara Nehrkorn earned girls golf state berths.
Freidag, a senior, placed seventh with an 88, and Nehrkorn, also a senior, shot a 94, then won a playoff on the first hole for the 10th and final qualifying spot at the Class 1A Aquin Sectional on Saturday at Park Hills Golf Course in Freeport.
Freidag and Nehrkorn will compete in the Class 1A state tournament Friday and Saturday at Red Tail Run in Decatur.
Eastland-Milledgeville (409) missed qualifying as a team by 10 strokes. The advancing teams were Richmond-Burton (363), Byron (394) and Aurora Rosary (399).
Erie finished 11th at 444, and Oregon was 12th at 455. Morgan Newton paced the Cardinals with a 106, while Abby Martin was low for the Hawks with a 106.
Rock Falls takes 2nd at Dixon Invite: The Rockets defeated Sterling in the semifinals before falling short against LaSalle-Peru in the championship at the Dixon Invitational.
Rock Falls went 1-1 in pool play, defeating Rochelle 20-8, 20-15 before losing to LP 20-14, 20-14. The Rockets only played two pool matches because Rockford Auburn did not show up for the tournament.
Rock Falls downed Sterling 20-17, 20-7 in the semis before again losing to LP – 25-14, 25-18 – in the final.
Bailey O’Brien led Rock Falls (17-13) with 32 kills, while Chelsi Blair added 45 assists and 15 digs.
Amboy (10-13-1) went 3-2 and took third place, beating Sterling 20-13, 20-15 in the third-place match after losing to the Warriors 20-10, 20-5 in pool play. Hannah McCoy totaled 25 kills for the Clippers.
Sterling went 3-2 on the day. The Warriors swept through pool play, beating Dunlap, Amboy and Dixon. Kiarra Harris paced the Golden Warriors (23-6) with 33 kills, 19 blocks and three aces.
Dixon went 1-4 on the day. The Duchesses fell to Amboy, Dunlap and Sterling in pool play. In the consolation bracket, they beat Rochelle before again losing to Dunlap.
Sterling’s Ansusinha takes 3rd at NIB-12 tourney: The Golden Warriors’ Erin Ansusinha took third place in No. 2 singles at the Northern Illlinois Big 12 Tournament in DeKalb.
Ansusinha defeated Kaneland’s Stephanie Zwick 6-3, 6-2 in the third-place match.
Oregon 1, Dixon 0: Harry Baldwin scored the game’s lone goal off an assist from Jarrett Reynolds as the Hawks won in Dixon.
Goalkeeper Jordan Gilmour had seven saves in the shutout for Oregon (11-7-3).
Sauk’s Berogan, Trujillo win regional title: Sauk Valley Community College’s Ashlyn Berogan and Gabi Trujillo won the No. 3 doubles title at the Region IV Tournament on Friday and Saturday at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills.
Berogan and Trujillo came back for a 1-6, 6-3, 10-7 win over Elgin’s Aida DeLeFuente and Ellie Weber in the final.
Sauk goes 1-3 in Burlington: Sauk Valley Community College won a match Friday, then dropped its next three during the SCC Invitational in Burlington, Iowa.
The Skyhawks (14-16) beat Clinton 25-20, 25-21, 28-26 on Friday before losing a nail-biter to Southeastern 23-25, 25-18, 21-25, 26-24, 15-11.
On Saturday, Sauk lost 28-26, 25-11, 26-24 to South East Community College (Neb.), then fell to Vincennes University 25-11, 25-14, 23-25, 25-11.
Kalli Scheppers (32) and Morgan Mammosser (29) combined for 61 kills.
Eissens leads Skyhawks: Evan Eissens carded a three-round total of 239 as Sauk Valley finished eighth at the 11-team Regional IV Tournament at PrairieView in Byron.
The Skyhawks had a total of 1,024. The top two squads, Black Hawk (911) and Carl Sandburg (963), advance to the national tournament next May in Swan Lake, Ind.
Eissens qualified individually, while Cody Tiesman (240) is the first alternate.
The tourney medalist was Black Hawk’s Kyle Workman. The Fulton graduate had a 218 score, two strokes fewer than teammate Josh Bousman.
