Prescription drug drop-off day set in October

DIXON – Area residents can drop off unneeded prescription drugs, including controlled substances, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 26 during National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

Collection sites are at the Dixon Police Department, 220 S. Hennepin Ave.; Ogle County Jail, 107 S. Fifth St., Oregon; the Sterling Police Department, 212 Third Ave., No. 3, Sterling; and Whiteside County Sheriff’s Department, 400 N. Cherry St., Morrison.

The Illinois State Police also will collect unused, unneeded and expired prescription medications Oct. 26 at District 1 headquarters, 3107 E. Lincolnway in Sterling. There will be designated boxes to deposit the medications in.

October is National Substance Abuse Prevention Month. Lutheran Social Services of Illinois is working with other area agencies to raise awareness of prescription drug abuse. Call Erin Clark at LSSI, at 815-284-7796, ext. 2315, for more information.
