Published: Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013 1:27 a.m. CST

BOYS

2A Freeport

When: 9 a.m. Monday

Where: Park Hills Golf Course, Freeport

Local teams (regional score): Sterling (332); Rock Falls (338); Dixon (340)

Other teams: Burlington Central (295); Aurora Central Catholic (298); Boylan (310); Kaneland (310); Vernon Hills (318); Woodstock Marian (326); Antioch (327); Marengo (342); Winnebago (358)

Top locals (regional score): Andrew Tichler, Rock Falls, 71; Austin Thomas, Dixon, 78; Ryan Hurley, Sterling, 80

Regional medalists: Danny Gorman, Boylan, 75; Jordan Hahn, Richmond-Burton, 72; Dane Lehr, Ottawa, 76; Matt Weber, Burlington Central, 66

Outlook: If regional scores hold up, the three local teams will probably be focused on getting individual players to advance through. Tichler, Hurley and Dixon's Ryan Dixon all are capable of low rounds. Burlington Central and Aurora Christian look to be the teams to beat here.

Advancement: Top three teams and top 10 individuals not on those teams will advance to the state tournament at Weibring Golf Club in Normal on Oct. 18-19.

1A Byron

When: 9 a.m. Monday

Where: PrairieView Golf Course

Local teams (regional score): Oregon (341); Morrison (354)

Other teams: Byron (315); Stockton (328); North Shore Country Day (336); Aurora Christian (338); Westminster Christian (338); Beecher (345); Rockford Christian (347); Indian Creek (355); Lena-Winslow (357); Hall (362)

Local individuals (regional score): Grant Ames, Prophetstown, 85; Matt Dail, Fulton, 90; Devin Hartman, Eastland, 84; Logan Lessman, Eastland, 90; Todd Nelson, Newman, 84; Logan Twidell, Bureau Valley, 87; Lucas Wiebenga, Fulton, 85; Ryan Youn, Bureau Valley, 88

Regional medalists: Michael Barber, Beecher, 74; Connor Rejman, Westminster Christian, 76; Trey Timpe, Stockton, 76; Dan Lowe, Byron, 77

Outlook: Much like 2A, it would be a stretch for Oregon or Morrison to cut enough strokes to make it as a team. The one advantage for the Hawks is that they are very familiar with PrairieView. If they don't make it as a team, they could get a golfer or two through to state. Byron is a heavy favorite on its home course.

Advancement: Top three teams and top 10 individuals not on those teams will advance to the state tournament at Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington on Oct. 18-19.

GIRLS

AA Sacred Heart-Griffin

When: 9 a.m. Monday

Where: Piper Glen Golf Course

Local teams (regional score): None

Other teams: Sacred Heart-Griffin (310); Normal U-High (328); Alton (337); Highland (348); Edwardsville (358); O'Fallon (362); Belleville East (367); Normal Community (371); Galesburg (379); Moline (389); Mattoon (397): MInooka (398)

Local individual (regional score): Michala Smith, Sterling, 109

Regional medalists: Isabelle Kane, Loyola, 70; Meghan Kramp, Sacred Heart-Griffin, 74; Taylor Nesselroad, Galesburg, 82; August Will, Normal, 77

Outlook: Smith's chances of making out of the sectional are slim, but it will be a great place for this Sterling senior to wrap up her career. Sacred Heart-Griffin is one of the favorites to win the girls state title this year.

Advancement: Top three teams and top 10 individuals not on those teams will advance to the state tournament at Hickory Point Golf Course in Decatur on Oct. 18-19.

A Aquin

When: 9 a.m. Saturday

Where: Park Hills Golf Course, Freeport

Local teams (regional score): Eastland (376); Erie (409); Oregon (438)

Other teams: Lena-Winslow (367); Richmond-Burton (392); Byron (396); Wheaton Academy (413); Rockford Lutheran (418); Aurora Rosary (428); Mt. Assisi Academy (451); Lisle (457); Chicago Payton (460)

Local individuals (regional score): Hayley Guilinger, West Carroll, 95; Mackenna Munson, Fulton, 101; Kara Nehrkorn, Rock Falls, 89; Jessica Stickel, Rock Falls, 101; Jaden Workman, Morrison, 100

Regional medalists: Sabrina Bonanno, Ridgewood, 73; Karissa Freidag, Eastland, 80; Rachel Hopkins, Byron, 90; Rylie Loux, Plano, 85

Outlook: Eastland, which is in its second year of play for girls, should have a good chance of advancing its team out of this sectional. The area has several individuals, like Rock Falls' Kara Nehrkorn and West Carroll's Hayley Guilinger, who should be in contention to advance to the state meet.

Advancement: Top three teams and top 10 individuals not on those teams will advance to the state tournament at Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur on Oct. 18-19.
