Hawks join tie atop BNC

Duchesses move to .500, finish off season sweep of Streator

The Oregon Hawks really muddied up the waters in the Big Northern Conference West volleyball race Thursday night, downing Mendota 18-25, 25-22, 25-22 on the road to forge a three-way tie atop the conference standings.

Hailey Long had seven kills, nine digs and three blocks for the Hawks (20-5-1, 7-2), who are now tied with the Trojans and Rock Falls for the BNC West lead.

Emy Wright had five kills and nine digs, Jordan Wilken had 10 digs, and Delaney Mahoney dished 30 assists to go with five digs and three blocks.

Dixon def. Streator 15-25, 25-17, 25-22: Amy Rotella pounded eight kills and served up three aces, and Haley Fitzsimmons continued her strong play with seven kills as the Duchesses won on the road in NIB-12 West action.

In the final volleyball match between two schools headed to new conferences next season, Dixon (12-12, 4-2) reached the .500 mark after rallying from a rough first set to beat the Bulldogs for the second time this fall.

Lexy Duncan added five kills, Caitlin Rozek had three more, and Rachel Gascoigne dished 20 assists for the Duchesses.

Erie def. Amboy 25-15, 25-16: Savannah Mettler had five kills and eight digs, and Megan Heun stuffed the stat sheet in the Cardinals’ Three Rivers North win at home.

Heun finished with five kills, seven digs, a block, an ace and an assist, while Rachel Cobert added four kills and a block.

Peyton Rus had three kills, a block and five digs, and Mary Chapman added 17 assists, five digs and two kills for Erie.

Sydney Wilhelm’s fove kills lead the Clippers (7-11-1, 1-9), while Hannah McCoy added three kills and two blocks. Kaitlyn Liebing (13 digs) and Destinee Oenes (10 digs) paced the defense.

Riverdale def. Prophetstown 22-25, 25-13, 25-21: Six different Prophets had at least five digs, but 41 digs as a defense didn’t lead to a Three Rivers North road win.

Karlie Stafford had nine digs and seven kills, while Kate Fringer added 19 assists and seven digs for Prophetstown (5-14, 3-7). Kassi Henrekin had a career-high seven digs, while Claire Milnes (12 kills, 2 blocks) and Clare Kramer (9 kills) led the offense.

Forreston def. Polo 25-8, 25-12: The Marcos struggled to get anything going against a solid Cardinals squad in an NUIC East loss at home.

Aquin def. Milledgeville 25-17, 25-17: Kailee Forbes had four kills, two blocks and two assists, but it wasn’t enough for the Missiles in an NUIC East loss at home.

Kendra Schave and Emily Geison also had four kills each, with Schave
adding six digs and
Geison chipping in three digs. Taylor Grenoble’s seven digs paced the defense, and Haley Mc-Auliffe dished 12 assists.

Boys soccer

Oregon 3, Mendota 1: The Hawks converted three of their seven shots into goals in a Big Northern West road win.

Harry Baldwin, Ryan Bennett and Jarrett Reynolds all scored for Oregon (10-7-3, 6-2-2), with Bennett’s coming on a penalty kick.

Ian Starkey and Zak Zalzalah dished assists, and Jordan Gilmour made eight save in goal.
