Warriors blow away Pirates

Carlos Gallardo had four assists and two goals to lead the Sterling boys soccer team to a 9-2 victory against Streator on Tuesday at Roscoe Eades Stadium.

Also for Sterling, Tony Diaz had three goals and one assist; Sebastian Uresti and Jorge Garcia each had a goal and an assist; Jesus Velazquez and Santana Trujillo each had a goal; and Jose Uresti added an assist.

Streator 3, Dixon 2: Scott Heath scored both goals for the Dukes, with assists from Reid Deets, in a home loss to the Bulldogs. Dixon is now 0-13-1 this season.

Oregon 1, Rockford Lutheran 0: Ryan Bennett scored for the Hawks, with an assist from Ian Starkey, in a home win over the Crusaders.

Jordan Gilmour made six saves for Oregon (9-7-3, 5-2-2 Big Northern).

Girls swimming

Byron 124, Sterling 57: Kennedy Halsmer and Kassie Paul each won two events as the Tigers defeated the Golden Warriors in Byron.

Halsmer won the 100 butterfly (1:05.95) and 200 IM (2:28.94), while Paul took the 100 breaststroke (1:15.36) and 200 freestyle (2:09.04).

Sterling's lone win came from Emily McDonald in the 100 freestyle (1:00.98).

Girls tennis

Newman 7, St. Bede 2: The Comets swept the singles matches on their way to a win over the Bruins at Sauk Valley Community College.

Mary Alice Oswalt, Anne Vits, Christina Long, Emily Long, Chantel Ordean and Rachel Heiderscheit each won singles matches. Taryn McKenna and Allie Furr won at No. 2 doubles for Newman (10-3).
