STERLING – The Sterling Rock-Falls Family YMCA will have free swim lessons to students in second grade.

The initiative, “Making Small Ripples Today Leads to Big Impact Tomorrow,” was made possible by donor support. The program will help prevent drownings, and teaches swimming skills, water safety, and confidence.

Students will meet for 45 minutes once a week for 6 weeks. Parents can choose from several times, days, and months.

Lessons are scheduled for Oct. 28 through Dec. 4; Jan. 13 through Feb. 22; Feb. 24 through April 5; and April 7 through May 17. Summer classes will be announced at a later date.

Sessions will be offered from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. and 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Monday; 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. and 6:15 to 7 p.m. Wednesday; and 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Swimmers will receive a report card and 50 percent off a second set of lessons, valid for 3 months. For more information, or to register, call Deb Mortonson or Melissa Ryan at 815-535-9622.
