Pay off debts; hold off awhile

To Mayor Burke and the city commissioners:

I would like to recommend to the city mayor and commissioners that your first move with the funds that are coming to the city is to pay off all the debts that the city has incurred since the problem of shortcomings has happened.

The sewer obligation should be first and foremost on everyone’s mind, as this one obligation alone has raised the cost to the water and sewer for the average user a considerable amount.

We all need some relief from this situation. After this happens, just let the dust settle before any other decisions are made.

I personally think Mayor Burke and his party did a very good job on recouping those funds and should be congratulated for it. Although this felony never should have occurred, we are very fortunate to obtain this recovery, and the dollars should be guarded wisely.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
