Golf: Hogue leads Mustangs to sectional

Noah Hogue carded an 8-over-par 80 to lead the Morrison boys golf team to a 354 total and second place at the Class 1A Galena Regional on Tuesday at Galena Golf Club.

Stockton (328), Morrison and Lena-Winslow (357) are the teams moving on to the 1A Byron Sectional on Monday.

Backing up Hogue for the Mustangs were Brock Smith with 88, Colton Smith with 93 and Nick Kaufman with 93. Rounding out the lineup were Ben Tegeler (94) and Anthony Tenboer (102).

Included among the individuals advancing to sectional were Fulton’s Lucas Wiebenga (85) and Matt Dail (90), and Prophets-town’s Grant Ames (85).

Two BV golfers advance: Logan Twidell shot an 87, and Ryan Young carded an 88 to highlight Bureau Valley’s effort at the Class 1A Putnam County Regional at Edgewood Golf Course in McNabb.

Young made the sectional cut on the number, and will be competing in Byron next week.

The Storm finished with a 410 team total, 10th among 12 teams.

Amboy placed sixth with a team score of 363. Beecher (345), Indian Creek (355) and Hall (362) were the advancing teams. St. Bede and Seneca also had 362 totals, but Hall advanced with a lower score from its fifth man.

Griffin Kozeal paced Amboy with an 89, and was followed by Logan Thake (90), Tracer Mills (91) and Jake Lucas (93).
