PROPHETSTOWN – Marjorie J. Gardner, 94, of Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Center in Prophetstown, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at the center. She and her husband owned and operated the former Gardner Funeral Home in Prophetstown for many years.

Marjorie was born July 14, 1919, in Hooppole, the daughter of Walter E. and Anna (Anderson) Gibson. She married Dean C. Gardner on Feb. 27, 1942, in Prophetstown. He preceded her in death on Sept. 10, 1989. She was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church in Prophetstown.

Survivors include one daughter, Gwen Gardner of Prophetstown; one son, Garth (Kelly) Gardner of Woodstock, Conn.; three grandchildren; and one sister, Mary (Lee) Bierman of Belvidere.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Marcia and Francia, in infancy; two sisters, Dorine Johnson and Kelly Gibson; and two brothers, W.B. “Bud” Gibson and Allen G. Gibson.

Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Friday and the funeral at 2 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church in Prophetstown, with the Rev. Greg Olson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown. Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home in Prophetstown is handling arrangements.

A memorial has been established to First Lutheran Church.
