PEKIN (AP) — Crews in Pekin have started preliminary demolition work on the former Pekin Daily Times building.

The Pekin Daily Times reports (http://bit.ly/19lRoo8) work started Tuesday on the interior of the building. Tazewell County Building and Grounds Director Dan Gillette says crews could start full-on demolition as early as Wednesday.

The building was built in the 1890s as a bakery. The newspaper moved into the building in 1906.

The Tazewell County Board purchased the building in 2011. Efforts to save the building were unsuccessful.
