Volleyball roundup: Comets collect themselves, stay unbeaten in Three Rivers

Newman overcame a second-set loss on its home floor Tuesday to stay unblemished in Three Rivers play, beating Bureau Valley 25-21, 20-25, 25-22.

Megan Rosengren had 13 kills and seven points for Newman (12-4, 8-0). Julie Hurd notched eight kills and eight digs, and Aubree Schmitt added seven kills and seven points, two of them aces. Allison Shipman and Kayci Howell had 18 and 17 assists, respectively.

Valerie Reuter had 10 kills and seven digs for BV (10-4, 6-2), while Sydney Lebahn set 26 assists.

Sterling def. Geneseo 25-20, 25-18: The Warriors won a Northern Illinois Big 12 West match on the road to improve to 3-2 in the division.

Kaylee Martin led Sterling (15-3) with 11 kills, and Kiarra Harris had five kills and four blocks.

Ottawa def. Dixon 25-16, 25-16: The Pirates halted the Duchesses’ three-match conference winning streak in Ottawa. Dixon slipped to 7-9 overall and 3-2 in the NIB-12 West.

Erie def. Prophetstown 25-27, 25-15, 25-18: Rachel Cobert and Peyton Rus had nine kills apiece, and Savannah Mettler added eight for the Cardinals in a Three Rivers victory in Erie.

Mettler and Courtney Cobert both had 12 digs for Erie, which got 26 assists from Mary Chapman and four aces from RaeAnna Stover.

For Prophetstown (3-7, 2-4), Claire Milnes had six kills, two blocks and two aces.

Riverdale def. Amboy 25-16, 25-19: Madeline Ely had 10 assists and four digs in a losing effort in Amboy.

Hannah McCoy added four kills and two blocks for the Clippers (5-9-1, 0-7 Three Rivers).

Fulton def. Morrison 26-28, 25-22, 25-13: Betsy Leonard racked up 13 kills and five blocks, as the Steamers rallied after a first-set loss in Morrison.

Olivia Edfors set 17 assists for Fulton (4-11, 4-5 Three Rivers), which got nine kills and 12 service points – four of them aces – from Rachael Beiermann.

AFC def. Pecatonica 25-21, 25-13: Krista Beach had four kills and two blocks, but the Raiders lost an NUIC East road match.

Orangeville def. Polo 25-22, 25-15: Alli Reeder and Carly Hinrichs both had three kills in an NUIC East loss in Orangeville.

Rock Falls def. Stillman Valley 25-7, 25-14: Nicole Tupper came off the bench to serve six points in a Big Northern West victory at Tabor Gym.

Bailey Schrader had 10 kills, and Bailey O’Brien added seven kills and three aces for Rock Falls (9-9, 4-2).

Faith wins two in Fulton: The Falcons posted decisive victories against Unity (25-18, 25-9) and Rivermont (25-14, 25-8).

Tressa Schuler paced Faith Christian (22-1) with 23 digs, 12 digs and two aces, while Annabeth Rozanas added 14 assists, seven kills, five digs and four aces.

College volleyball

Sandburg def. Sauk 21-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-19: Kristyn Kasner had 13 kills and two blocks, and Kalli Scheppers added 11 kills and two blocks as the Skyhawks (11-11, 3-4) lost an Arrowhead road match.
