Coming from Chicago and having lived here since 1977, these are my “favorite things” about Dixon.
There is always a tennis court available; the ones at St. Pat’s are slower and easier on the knees. We drove around for about 40 minutes in Chicago the weekend of Sept. 21 and found one that needed much surface repair; it almost was hazardous. The other court was being used by a teacher giving lessons.
Over the years, we are very grateful to have found honest and hardworking people, such as our mechanic, P&R, Dixon Tire, Dixon Autobody, and Huffman Car Wash.
Our favorite diner, Town and Country, serves the best breakfast. I also have always found it very convenient to just pop in at the KSB cafeteria for a quick bowl of oatmeal, meet a friend there for lunch, or enjoy their salads.
We thank KSB Hospital, Sauk Valley Media, WSDR, and WLLT for all their help in promoting our various nonprofit functions.
We are happy that we have the beautiful Rock River in our backyard.
Very thankful for not needing to deal with traffic, all the free parking spaces we have, and our quiet and peaceful surroundings. We are glad to be able to visit the “big cities” when we need to, but come home to Dixon afterward.
It is no wonder President Ronald Reagan always considered Dixon “a place to come home to.”
