CHICAGO (AP) – The University of Illinois-Chicago will be the new home for a national consortium of 25 Latino research centers.

The university said Wednesday the Inter-University Program for Latino Research will move to Chicago from its longtime home at Notre Dame.

The new director will be Maria de los Angeles Torres. She is a professor of Latin American and Latino studies.

The group was founded in 1983. It supports research into Latinos in American politics, economics, culture, art, history and immigration.

Other members include centers at the University of California-Los Angeles, the University of Texas and Florida International University.
