John A. ‘Johnny Nick’ Nicholson

PAW PAW – John Addison “Johnny Nick” Nicholson, 82, of Paw Paw, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at home, with his loving wife at his side.

John was born May 13, 1931, in Waterman, to Charles and Edith (Heath) Nicholson. John joined the Air Force on Nov. 29, 1951. After returning home, he built a thriving construction/excavation business. He married Phyllis J. LeMar. She preceded him in death in 1971. He married Lucille Smith Full on Dec. 12, 1973. Many knew him as “Big Hammer.” Every day, he looked forward to work, and thought of it as more like play than a job. John always was willing to help others, whether a friend or stranger. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Lucy Smith Full Nicholson, at home; two sons, John (Sue) Nicholson and Jared (Dawn) Nicholson, both of Paw Paw; three daughters, Lisa Hoebing of Malta, and Linda (Chuck) Sellers and Clara (Wally) DeLong, both of Paw Paw; one brother, Collin Nicholson of Sycamore; one sister, Florence Randall of Marion, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.  

He also was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jeff Nicholson; one son-in-law, Jeffrey Hoebing; one sister, Marion Zinzi; and one brother, Charles Nicholson.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 398 Church Road, Compton. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Compton. Burial will be at Wyoming Township Cemetery in Paw Paw. Torman Funeral Home in Paw Paw is handling arrangements,
