ROCK FALLS – Gene LaVerne Mount, 53, of Rock Falls, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at his home. 

Gene was born June 9, 1960, in Sterling, to Wayne and LaVonne (Mennenga) Mount. He married Janette Marie Bennett on May 7, 1988, in Sterling. She preceded him in death on Jan. 17, 2000. Gene then married Patricia Gilbert on June 29, 2007, in Morrison. He worked for Flex-O-Glass as a machine operator for 16 years. Gene was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. He enjoyed traveling, playing chess, and Texas hold ‘em. He enjoyed spending time with his Jack Russell terrier, Mia.

Survivors include his wife, Patti of Rock Falls; his parents; one daughter, Trista Mount of Rock Falls; one son, Justin (Sharon) Bennett of St. Louis; two stepdaughters, Brandi Jones of Dixon and Brittany (Josh) Karn of Fayetteville, N.C.; one stepson, Christopher (Vanessa) Jones of Rock Falls; one sister, Vonda Miller of Sterling; one brother, Larry (Theresa) Mount of Jefferson City, Mo.; one granddaughter, Hana Ford; and four stepgrandchildren, Kobe, Jordan, and Kailie Jones, and Lucas Karn.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jannette Marie Mount; and one son, Jason Charles Mount.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Richard Fassig officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society.
