MONROE, Wis. – Joseph P. Braun, formerly of Chicago and Dixon, passed away Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, in Monroe.

He was born in 1926, on a farm in DeKalb County. He enlisted in the Army in 1944 and served 2 years. He was discharged as a private 1st class from the Anti-Tank Company, 160th Infantry, 40th Division. He was employed by USF&G for 35 years. He was a member of the Lee County Sheriff’s Reserve, and worked as a bailiff in the Lee County courts. He was recognized for 34 years of service to the citizens of Lee County. He was a member of the Moose for 64 years and the Elks for 56 years. Joe was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Dixon, and his wife, Marion, remains a member.

Joe rejoiced in and was very proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He especially was proud of the educational goals his children and grandchildren accomplished, stating often that, “No education is a waste.” He enjoyed deer hunting with his friends and vacations in northern Wisconsin with family. Joe was an avid history reader – especially of war history.

He was the husband of Marion for 64 years; father of John (Jan) Braun of Lewistown, Richard (Chris) Braun of Elkhorn, Wis., Eugenia (Mark) Rudy of Fort Ashby, W.Va., and Rebecca (Dan) Good of South Wayne, Wis. He was a proud grandfather of 10; and great-grandfather of five.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 5 at First Presbyterian Church, 110 E. Third St., Dixon, with the Rev. David Spaulding officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon. Newcomer Funeral Home in Monroe is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established for the Elks Children’s Care Corporation.
