Here are some of the numbers that explain Week 4 of the high school football season in the Sauk Valley:
That’s how many undefeated teams remain from the 15 Sauk Valley teams. The Eastland-Pearl City Wildcatz are 4-0 and could become playoff eligible with a win over Lena-Winslow on Friday.
That’s how many points per game that EPC is scoring. The Wildcatz are allowing 10 points per game.
That’s how many wins the NIB-12 West has against NIB-12 East wins in 12 crossover-games this season.
LaSalle-Peru beat Yorkville 16-9 in Week 4. Geneseo beat Morris 42-7 in Week 3. There will be two more crossover games this season, both coming on Friday as Streator hosts DeKalb, and Sycamore plays at Ottawa.
That’s how many NIB-12 crossover games that Sterling has lost in a row. Its last win came over Sycamore (34-27, OT) in Week 5 of the 2011 season.
They have been outscored 195-49 in the last four games.
That’s how many points per game the Dixon Dukes are allowing this season. A year ago through four games, the Dukes were allowing 42 points per game.
They are scoring 2.5 points more per game. This season they are scoring 17.75 points per game.
That’s how many points Newman scored in the third quarter against Morrison. The score had been tied at zero at halftime.
Polo was a two-point conversion short of matching that, as it put up 26 in the second quarter against Milledgeville.
That’s how many touchdowns Erie-Prophetstown’s Nick Williams will score during the regular season if he keeps up his current pace.
He has scored 13 touchdowns through four games, including scoring four touchdowns against Fulton.
That’s the combined record of the four teams that West Carroll (0-4) has played to open the season. They’ve played EPC, which is ranked No. 3 in 2A, and Forreston, which is ranked No. 3 in 1A. They also lost to conference power Lena-Winslow on Friday 59-26.
Their closest game was a 22-14 loss to East Dubuque, which is one of the favorites to win the NUIC Upstate.
The Thunder play Dakota (1-3) this week. While the Indians are struggling this season, they did win a state championship in 2011.
That’s how many yards the Rock Falls defense has allowed combined the last 2 weeks. They allowed 668 in a 66-45 loss to Rockford Lutheran in Week 3. They followed that up by allowing 479 in a 56-43 loss to Byron on Friday.
The Rock Falls offense has gained 1,048 yards in those two games.
That’s how many Sauk Valley teams are sitting at 2-2 after 4 weeks.
Sterling is 2-2 with five NIB-12 West remaining on the schedule. The Warriors should contend for the conference crown, with a Week 7 game with Geneseo likely being the key matchup.
Oregon is even through four games. Its biggest tests will be Friday at Lutheran (3-1) and a Week 7 game at Winnebago (4-0).
Morrison has won two games and has been blown out in two other games. It beat Princeton (46-0) and Fulton (8-7), but has lost two games by a combined score of 92-0.
Polo is also 2-2 with big challenges the next 2 weeks in Aquin (3-1) and Eastland-Pearl City (4-0). If they survive those two, they should have a good chance in each of the last three games.
