Published: Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013 1:15 a.m. CST

FULTON – The Miller Club at De Immigrant Windmill will present its first Kids’ Fest Oct. 14.

The free event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. near the Dutch windmill and inside the Windmill Cultural Center, 111 10th Ave.

Miller Club is a youth organization sponsored by Fulton’s Volunteer Millers. The group was formed to encourage young people in the community to find value in volunteering, history, and science. Club members will be responsible at Kids’ Fest for organizing the festival and working directly with guests.

All elementary-aged children are welcome to join the Miller Club for Kids’ Fest, a day of learning, games, crafts and prizes.

Attendees will travel to different stations to learn about parts of the windmill. Cultural opportunities will be learned through games, crafts and sampling food. Stations include Dutch games, working with gears, planting tulip bulbs, and crafts. There will be a drawing for windmill-themed prizes.

Parents may attend with their children,

Kids’ Fest is sponsored by a grant from the D.S. Flikkema Foundation. It will be held rain or shine. No registration is required.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
