TAMPICO — A Tampico man was in jail Friday on $30,000 bond after police say he stabbed a man Aug. 24 in the alley behind Casey’s General Store, 201 S. Main St.

Michael S. Dexter, 34, is charged with one count of aggravated battery, a felony that carries a sentence of 2 to 5 years in prison.

Tampico Sgt. Boyd Van Dellen said that an alcohol-fueled fight broke out between Dexter and a 50-year-old Tampico man about 6 p.m. Dexter “swiped” at the other man with a knife, creating a gash from his left upper chest area to his left shoulder. The victim was taken to CGH hospital and given about 47 stitches, Van Dellen said.

Dexter will appear in Whiteside County Court on Sept. 26.
