Benefit planned for Ashton woman

ASHTON – Auction items and financial donations are being sought for a Nov. 16 fundraiser to help an Ashton firefighter combat cancer.

Anna Richter, 30, is the daughter of Bernard “Stub” Richter of Ashton and Tammy Powell of Rochelle, and has a son, Michael, 8. Anna works at Crest Foods in Ashton. She joined the Ashton Fire Department in 2001, becoming an emergency medical technician, and recently, a captain.

Richter recently was diagnosed with metastatic malignant melanoma. Her family, friends, fellow firefighters, and community members are organizing the benefit to help with her medical expenses. More details will be announced as the benefit approaches.
