Local roundup: Rock Falls volleyball rallies in Byron

Freidag sisters go low for Eastland golf

Sheila Mammosser called the second set “a battle until the very end” and “a very good game.”

But the smart money says the Rock Falls volleyball coach preferred the outcomes of the first and third sets, as her Rockets won 25-15, 22-25, 25-14 on Wednesday in Byron.

Bailey O’Brien racked up 15 kills, eight digs and four aces for Rock Falls (5-6, 3-1 Big Northern West). Chelsi Blair added 25 assists and 14 service points, and Dallas Clevenger and Bailey Schrader chipped in nine and seven kills, respectively.

Amboy def. Indian Creek 25-15, 25-18: Sydney Wilhelm amassed six kills, four aces, three blocks and seven service points in Amboy.

Kaitlyn Liebing added eight points, three kills and five digs for Amboy (4-6-1).

Boys golf

Hall 166, Riverdale 170, Erie 180: Brandon Heppner led Erie with a 42 at Lake Erie Golf Course.

Levi Floming and Tanner Brockway added 45s for the Cardinals, and Hall’s Pete Mautino shot 38 for medalist honors.

Bureau Valley 181, Orion 186, Rockridge 187: The Storm’s Ryan Young and Logan Twidell shot twin 39s for medalist honors at Highland Springs Golf Course in Rock Island.

Jacob Heidenreich and Harrison Brousseau added a 51 and 52 for Bureau Valley, respectively.

Sherrard 177, Princeton 190, Amboy 198: The Clippers lost a Three Rivers crossover triangular at Shady Oaks to two teams of Tigers.

Jake Lucas led Amboy with a 45, and Griffin Kozeal fired a 49. Sherrard’s Grant Morse was medalist with a 1-over-par 36.

Forreston 172, Polo 201, River Ridge 208: Dylan Bushman led the Marcos with a 47 at Sunset Golf Course.

Sawyer Frano and Brix Clayton added 50s for Polo, but Bryan Edler took medalist honors with a 40 for Forreston, which saw all six of its golfers shoot in the 40s.

Girls golf

Eastland 206, Pearl City 267: The Freidag sisters carded the two lowest scores for the Cougars at Lake Carroll Golf Club.

Karissa shot a 44 for medalist honors, and Kori shot 48 to help Eastland improve to 7-0. The Wolves slipped to 0-3.

Princeton 211, Prophetstown 265, Sterling 269: The Golden Warriors hosted a nonconference triangular at Emerald Hill, with Princeton’s Sophia Suarez firing a 45 as medalist.

Michala Smith led Sterling with a 54. Taylor Kelley’s 57 paced the Prophets.

College tennis

Sauk Valley 6, Waubonsee 3: Paige Goshert and Molly Ginn won singles matches, then teamed to win the No. 2 doubles match indoors on the road and help the Skyhawks improve to 3-1.

Goshert swept Danielle McCormack 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, and Ginn edged Marina Conde at No. 3, 6-1, 3-6, 10-5. They teamed to bagel the same players 8-0 at No. 2 doubles. Ashlyn Berogan won at No. 5 singles, Molly Hendrix at No. 6, and Berogan joined Gabi Trujillo to win at No. 3 doubles.
