ROCK ISLAND (AP) – FedEx will open a new distribution facility in Rock Island in 2015.
The 189,000-square-foot operation is replacing a smaller facility in Moline, which is close to two major highways.
The new building will be part of the company’s effort to expand its network across the country, said Allison Houser, spokeswoman for FedEx Ground, a subsidiary of Memphis, Tenn.-based FedEx Corp.
Preliminary construction work on the property has begun.
Workers will be transferred from Moline to the new facility in Rock Island, and additional workers will be hired, the company said, without specifying how many.
