MORRISON – Ronald G. Vegter, 76, of Morrison, died unexpectedly Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at University Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa, surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Ron was born Aug. 5, 1937, in Morrison, to George J. and Pearline F. (Workman) Vegter. He attended Morrison Community Schools. Ron married Dixie Milligan on Sept. 20, 1969, in Lyndon.

Ron farmed and was employed by General Electric from 1963 to 1976. He was the creator and owner of Cross Creek Golf Course in Morrison, a land developer and a home builder. Ron was a hardworking entrepreneur who built three subdivisions and Cross Creek Golf Course. He had a vision when he saw a vacant piece of land. Where Cross Creek is located today, Ron had farmed and hunted in his early years. He loved vacationing in Hawaii and relaxing on a cruise. Ron enjoyed hunting and golfing. He always was willing to take on any project, big or small. Ron loved spending time with his grandchildren. Until recent events, he had been a “poster boy” of good health.

Ron is survived by his wife, Dixie; his children, Mike (Kelly) Vegter of Morrison, Shelly (Craig) Gerald of Corona, Calif., and Mindy Vegter of Fulton; and his grandchildren, Nicole (Robert) Schine of Boulder City, Nev., Justin (Leslie) Wall of Morrison, Patrick King of Boulder City, Josh Wall of Morrison, Jessica Wall of Los Angeles, Ashley Domdey of Camanche, Iowa, Jamie (Tyler) Geerts of Fenton, Cameron Gerald of Corona, Michael Vegter of Morrison, and Jeremiah Brown of Fulton.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Treva Domdey; a sister, Mary Bull; and a brother, Jay Vegter.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside committal service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison, followed by a celebration of life gathering at 4:30 p.m. at Cross Creek Golf Course, 15523 Henry Road, Morrison. Quad City Skydiving Club will scatter Ron’s cremains at 5 p.m. Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home in Morrison is handling arrangements.
