Rockets go low
Behind Trace Hippen’s
school-record 32, the Rock Falls Rockets rattled off the best team score in program history Tuesday, firing a 147 to win a triangular against North Boone and Stillman Valley at Rock River Golf and Pool.
Hippen’s 2-under-par was backed by Aaron Frank’s 37, Andrew Tichler’s 38 and Matt Long’s 40. North Boone finished with 189, and Stillman Valley shot a 212.
Hall 178, St. Bede 179, Newman 182: Shawn Rosengren shot a 43 to lead the Comets, who finished third in a tightly contested triangular at Emerald Hill.
Todd Nelson added a 45, and Tucker Shoemaker and Matt Wagenecht each shot 47 for the Comets. Hall’s Pete Mautino was the medalist with a 42.
Riverdale 159, Morrison 163, Amboy 179: The Rams won a Three Rivers North triangular at Byron Hills, led by medalist Jake Busser’s 2-over-par 37.
Colton Smith led the Mustangs with a 38. Griffin Kozeal’s 42 paced the Clippers.
Sherrard 180, Orion 209, Prophetstown 218: Grant Ames led the Prophets with a 47 at Fyre Lake Golf Club.
Sherrard’s Grant Morse was the medalist with a 3-over-par 38.
Princeton 173, Fulton 174, Bureau Valley 196: Fulton’s Matt Dail and Princeton’s Zach Hicks split medalist honors, but that latter’s supporting cast did just enough to edge the Steamers at Fulton Country Club.
Lucas Wiebenga (42), Blaine Simmons (45) and Dustin Rowland (47) rounded out Fulton’s counted scores.
Ryan Young led Bureau Valley with a 43.
Rock Falls 204, Stillman Valley 234: Jessica Stickel shot a 45 to earn medalist honors, as the Rockets won a Big Northern meet at Rock River.
Kara Nehrkorn had a 48, and Tess Schaefer added a 55 for the Rockets (10-5).
Eastland 206, Sterling 246: The Cougars’ home-course advantage was too much for the Golden Warriors.
Michala Smith led Sterling with a 56 at Lake Carroll Golf Course in Lanark.
Princeton 198, Erie 209, DePue 257: Katlyn Weber and Morgan Newton shot 49s for the Cardinals at Chapel Hill Golf Course in Princeton.
Lexi Floming added a 51 for Erie.
