Hamblen follows strategy; Newman takes team title

STERLING – His game plan was set, and Brayden Hamblen was determined to follow it to the letter. Three days after the Rock Falls freshman runner finished right behind fellow ninth-grader Chris Ahlers of Newman, Hamblen turned the tables at the Twin City Meet Tuesday at Woodlawn. Hamblen covered the 3-mile course in 16:06.40, 10 seconds ahead of Ahlers (16:16.30), to win the title in the rivalry triangular. Ahlers was happy with his consolation prize, however. The Comets claimed the team title for the second straight year, placing its top five runners in the top 10 to beat the Sterling Golden Warriors 30-41. Rock Falls finished with 56 points.
