Sex abuse trial begins in Dixon

The trial of a former Amboy man is expected to last through Friday

DIXON – Jury selection was completed and opening statements made Tuesday in the trial of a former Amboy man accused of sexually abusing two girls, then 10 and 12.

Ignacio Sarabia, 50, was arrested in July 2010 and charged with nine counts of predatory criminal sexual assault, all class X felonies, which carry a sentencing range of 6 to 30 years. 

The trial is expected to last through the week, with some 50 witnesses scheduled to testify, according to defense attorney Andrew Bollman.

Sarabia remains in Lee County Jail on $250,000 bond.
