MORRISON – A new assisted living facility in Morrison will employ 25 people, including a full-time registered nurse, its owner announced Tuesday.

Cedar Rapids, Iowa-based HR Green recently selected 403 Scenic St. in Morrison for its newest Windsor Manor Assisted Living Community.

This is part of a trend in the Sauk Valley, thanks to the retirement of baby boomers. A new assisted living facility is planned for north Sterling, and Resthave Nursing Home in Morrison recently added an assisted living wing.

The new assisted living facility will be 33,000 square feet and feature common areas such as a large dining room, an activity center, sun rooms and several lounge areas for group socializing, according to an HR Green news release.

Construction is expected to start this month.

The facility will include a salon with spa, hydrotherapy whirlpool tub, bird aviary and outdoor spaces such as porches, patios, a gazebo, and courtyards with walking trails throughout the 5.7-acre site.

The Windsor Manor facility initially will offer 40 apartments, including studio, one- and two-bedroom options. Each apartment will have its own bathroom and kitchen or kitchenette area.

Services will include three meals per day served restaurant-style, laundry, housekeeping, cable TV, Internet access, an emergency response system, 24-hour security, scheduled activities, personal care services, and transportation, according to the release.

The facility will also feature a secured memory care wing to accommodate individuals who have Alzheimer’s disease, dementia or other progressive memory disorders. Future building expansions will include more apartments and garages for residents with cars.

The facility will be staffed around the clock.

HR Green has developed Windsor Manor assisted living facilities throughout Iowa with spots in Indianola, Grinnell, Vinton, Webster City, Nevada, Shenandoah and Algona.

Assisted living facilities are designed to meet the needs of seniors who may need help with daily living needs, but are able and prefer to live more independently in a residential environment.
