Pleased with new 10/5K run

Published: Friday, Sept. 20, 2013 1:15 a.m. CST

Hats off to the organizers of the first Bridge to Bridge 10/5K run. The race was Sept. 14, and what a wonderful job everyone did.

It was great to see such a good turnout for the event. We came in all sizes, shapes, ages, and colors, and I think it’s fair to say we had a ball.

Special thank you to the dozens of volunteers who gave up their Saturday morning to help. This event did, indeed, bridge our communities together. I loved the cheering as winners were announced.

Now that I think of it, I guess everyone was a winner – organizers, volunteers, participants, and our communities. Job well done.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
