ROCK FALLS – Gladys L. Cornstubble, 90, of Rock Falls, died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013 at Walnut Manor Nursing home in Walnut.
Gladys was born to James and Florence (Sanders) Thompson on Feb. 23, 1923 in Albany. She married Robert Cornstubble on April 13, 1942 in Fairfield.
Through the years they lived in Sterling, Chicago and the Joliet area, where they raised their five children.
Her husband died Aug. 3, 1978 in Joliet. After his death she moved back to the Sterling/Rock Falls area and resided her last 14 years in her beloved little apartment in Rock Falls Living Center, until her illness forced her to move.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed traveling, shopping, dinners out, family get-togethers with her children and grandchildren, and occasional casino trips. She was an avid fan of Elvis Presley.
Survivors include one daughter, Sandra (Cork) Mullan of Rock Falls; three sons, Robert (Kathleen) Cornstubble Jr. of Joliet, Lester (Terry) Cornstubble of Rock Falls, and Steven (Fiona) Cornstubble of Beloit, Wis.; one sister, Lucille Russell of Rock Falls; two brothers, LaVerne Thompson of Rock Falls and James Thompson of Sterling; and 20 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Mary Menz; three sisters, June Crofton, Evelyn Martinez and Ellen Hemminger; and three brothers, Raymond Thompson, Harold Thompson and Everette Thompson, all of whom died in infancy; and one grandson, Eric Cornstubble, who also died in infancy.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. Funeral services follow at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dalmus Meeks officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling.
