Rep. Kinzinger brings discredit to Republicans

Published: Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013 1:15 a.m. CDT

This business about parties is contributing to the blindness of being governed. For some elected officials, being Republican is purely symbolic. Words like “conservative” and “Republican” are a pitiful excuse for mediocrity.

U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger not only supported President Obama’s pious gesture to seek the authority of Congress for a strike on Syria, but Kinzinger was willing to prostitute himself to the White House to obtain additional support for Obama in the House of Representatives among his colleagues.

Whatever happened to the idea of the loyal opposition? Mr. Kinzinger not only brings discredit to the party, but to everyone who voted and contributed to his campaign. It is clear that the electorate was against the bombing, limited or otherwise.

This is what is bringing the slow death of the Republican Party and the loss of the party faithful. The latter must feel like King Ahab who discovers what it means to be married to Jezebel. Mr. Kinzinger is just another serpent in the desert.
