It is fitting to recognize the Constitution

“We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish the Constitution for the United States of America.” – U.S. Constitution

Sept. 17 marks the 226th anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention. It is fitting to officially recognize this magnificent document and the anniversary of its creation.

Constitution Week was initiated by the Daughters of the American Revolution.

In 1955, the president general of the DAR, Gertrude S. Carraway, adopted a project to promote the observance of the U.S. Constitution with a memorial week beginning on the anniversary of Sept. 17.

Constitution Week was officially declared by President Eisenhower on Aug. 2, 1956.
