ROCHELLE – William M. Grennan, 73, of Rochelle, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.

He was born Sept. 2, 1940, in Sterling, to John J. and Mary (McKenna) Grennan. Bill married Elke Fischer on July 17, 1977, in Rochelle. He owned Grennan’s Shoes, and worked for Swift & Co., Caron International, and Kable News in Mount Morris. He served our country through his service in the National Guard, and generously was an organ donor.

Bill is survived by his wife, Elke; two sons, Eric (fiancée, Saboorah Darling) of Chandler, Ariz., and Ryan of Rochelle; his sister, Pat Primrose of Rochelle; two brothers, Jack (Cheryl) of Rochelle and Tom (Chris) of Rochelle; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Ron Primrose.

Visitation will be from noon to 1:45 p.m. Saturday and a celebration of life memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday at Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. Sixth St., Rochelle, with the Rev. Juan Ayala officiating. Entombment, with military honors accorded by Eastern Ogle/Lee Honor Guard, will be at Lawnridge Mausoleum in Rochelle. All are invited to a luncheon at St. Patrick Parish Center in Rochelle after the committal services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ronald McDonald House and the American Cancer Society.
