DIXON – Walkers can raise awareness and money for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research.

The 19th annual Rock River Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be Sept. 28 at Lowell Park, 2114 Lowell Park Road.

Registration will be at 8 a.m., the opening ceremony at 9 a.m., and individual and team recognition at 10 a.m.

Those who raise $100 or more will receive a T-shirt and other prizes. Those who raise $500 or more will become members of the Walk to End Alzheimer’s Champions Club.

Proceeds will benefit those in Lee, Whiteside and Ogle counties who have the disease.

Last year, more than 200 walkers raised nearly $40,000.

In the summer newsletter, the association recognized Tyler Burkhalter, 8, of Rochester, who has attended the walk since he was a baby to support his grandmother, Mary Jo Burkhalter of Morrison.

After the 2011 walk, he began collecting loose change, and raised $135 for his family’s team, The Burky Bunch.

This year’s sponsors include Enterprise Rent-A-Car, CGH Medical Center, KSB Hospital, Brown Construction Co., Burkhardt’s LP Gas, Dixon Health Care & Rehabilitation Center, Dixon Lioness Club, Kratzners Plumbing, Liberty Court, and Wahl Clipper Corp.
