Nehrkorn paces Rockets

Kara Nehrkorn carded a 7-over-par 43 to lead the Rock Falls girls golf team to a 196-205 victory over Byron on Tuesday at PrairieView Golf Course in Byron.

Also for the Rockets, Jessica Stickel had 45, Destinee Shoemaker had 53 and Liz Lego had 55.

Boys golf

Sterling 161, Fulton 179: Ryan Hurley's 2-over-par 38 led the Golden Warriors past the Steamers at Fulton Country Club.

Matt Dail was low for Fulton with a 40.

Byron 156, Rock Falls 176: Aaron Frank led the Rockets with a 43 in a loss to the Tigers at PrairieView Golf Course.

Byron's Dennis Reedy was the medalist with a 2-over-par 38.

Thunder wins triangular: Cameron Ehlers fired a 43 to lead West Carroll (186) past Eastland (196) and Dakota (199) at Brush Creek in Orangeville.

The medalist was the Cougars' Devin Hartman with a 7-over-par 42.

Girls swimming

Moline 118, Sterling 54: Charli Wike won a pair of events for the Golden Warriors in a loss to the Maroons in Moline.

Wike led the way in the 200 IM (2:18.18) and 100 breaststroke (1:11.51). Single-event winners included Kallie Zuidema in 1-meter diving (134.75 points), Erin McCawley in the 100 butterfly (1:10.53) and Emily McDonald in the 100 freestyle (1:01.41).

Boylan JV 111, Newman 56: Alena Jensen won the 50 freestyle (28.73) and 100 freestyle (1:03.43) in the Comets' road loss to the Titans.

Jensen also teamed with Linnea Larson, Kyla Lehrke and Carly Schaab to take the 200 freestyle in 2:02.06.

Also for Newman, Abigayle Ammon won the 1-meter diving with 171.3 points.

Girls tennis

Newman 3, Mendota 2: Mary Alice Oswalt and Anne Vits won singles matches for the Comets in a decision over the Trojans at Sauk Valley Community College.

Newman (2-2) also received a win from the doubles team of Christina Long and Emily Long.

Rock Island 8, Sterling 1: Sarah Trobaugh and Anna Ivarson won their match at No. 3 doubles to account for the Golden Warriors' lone point against the Rocks in Rock Island.
